Though many may argue that the Champions’ or Winners’ Parade does not display the same fierce competition that is apparent in the Special Group’s parade, it is a victorious parade, as the top 6 winners of the competitions proudly perform their same routines again.
When is the Champions’ Parade?
The Winners’ Parade takes place annually on the Saturday after Carnival and accordingly at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2012, it will take place on 25th February. It begins with the 5th runner up performing first at 9pm, followed by the other winners, with the final show by the Grand Champion, which will culminate around 3 am.
Tickets to the Champions’ Parade
Tickets to this parade are cheaper than to the Special Group’s parade and so offer excellent value for money, especially when you consider that you will be watching the six best samba schools of the year performing the same show. As with every year the Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2012 tickets are sold much in advance, but issued only closer to the date for fear of duplication and for other security reasons.
Why you should attend the Winners’ Parade
The Winners’ Parade is a great place to mix with the locals or the Cariocas who come out in throngs to celebrate the victory and share the glory of their favorite samba school. Many of the locals who support samba schools are from impoverished areas and the school gives them a sense of belonging. In this way the school’s victory is a victory for them as well. You can experience this emotion and fervor at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2012 Champions’ Parade.
